Love at First Sight
Anna had been searching for something she simply could not find elsewhere. She wanted a venue that felt quintessentially English countryside, beautiful without being stiff, grand without being cold. When she discovered Hotham Hall, still in the final stages of its restoration, she knew immediately.
“It was so different to any other venue in the area,” she says. “Everything I was looking for in my idea of English countryside but elegant.”
What made the discovery all the more remarkable was that when Anna first viewed the Hall, it was not even finished. The renovation was still underway, and yet she fell in love with it immediately, returning again and again as it took shape. “The inside feels grand and I loved how every room felt so different,” she recalls. “You can tell so much thought went into the inside and the gardens.”
Possibilities, Not Limits
Being Hotham Hall’s very first wedding couple meant stepping into something new, and the team embraced that spirit entirely. The venue’s layout, its marquee capability, and its grounds opened up creative possibilities that felt limitless. Anna had a clear vision, and the team’s response was simply to make it happen.
“They made us feel so welcomed and confident that all my thoughts and ideas were possible,” she says. Every meeting left Anna and her husband to be, Lewis more excited than the last. Supplier suggestions, creative ideas, practical guidance: the team offered all of it, always with warmth and expertise. “Effortless and easy,” Anna says of the planning process. “Giving great advice when needed.”
The Morning of the Wedding
Anna and Lewis hired the Hall the night before their wedding, something she credits with making the morning feel even more special. She woke up at Hotham Hall, watched the sun rise over the grounds, and took it all in. After a week of uncertain weather, the morning of the wedding dawned brilliantly sunny.
“Waking up at Hotham Hall that morning is something I’ll never forget,” she says.
Anna and Lewis married at the nearby North Cave Church before returning to the Hall. When they arrived back, newly married, Linda and Rachel were there to greet them. The marquee was set up. The sun was shining. “Everything just looked so amazing.”
The Gardens, the Interiors, the Atmosphere
With the sunshine came full use of Hotham Hall’s extraordinary grounds, and Anna’s guests were transfixed. “It felt like we were in a Chateau in France,” she says. Photographs were taken against the Hall’s sweeping exterior and guests wandered the grounds with a sense of wonder.
“The interiors had a calm, refined quality that made the Hall feel both historically rich and welcoming, rather than overly formal.” It is a quality that runs through the whole estate.
