Memorable Landscapes
Over 120 acres of Yorkshire countryside
The grounds of Hotham Hall Estate are as much a part of the experience as the Hall itself. Formal gardens, open parkland, ancient woodland, a peaceful lake, and a productive kitchen garden give guests plenty to explore, and all of it is private to the estate.
Why Hotham Hall
Where nature's beauty meets refined elegance
The grounds of Hotham Hall have been shaped over centuries. The lake was expanded and the parkland developed during the 18th century, with strategic tree planting establishing the character of the landscape that surrounds the estate today. Available exclusively to guests of the estate, the grounds offer a private and picturesque setting throughout the year.
The seasons change the character of the landscape considerably. Spring brings the formal gardens to life with colour and scent, and summer fills the estate with light and warmth, a natural setting for outdoor celebrations and long evenings on the terrace. Autumn turns the parkland and woodland to copper and gold, while winter reveals the underlying structure of the landscape with a clarity all its own.

The Formal Gardens
The Formal Gardens
The formal gardens at Hotham Hall are immaculately maintained and among the most beautiful on any private estate in the region. Vibrant flower beds, manicured topiary, and the Georgian Hall as a backdrop make the gardens a lovely spot for outdoor ceremonies, summer receptions, photography, and quiet contemplation. The gardens are a living showcase of horticultural care and dedication throughout every season.

The Parkland and Woodland Walks
The Parkland and Woodland Walks
The open parkland makes up much of the estate, with the Parkland Walk from Hotham to Nordham taking guests past majestic copper beech trees and offering sweeping views across the arable land and the wider Yorkshire countryside. The ancient woodland provides a more secluded and atmospheric alternative, with dappled light and natural quiet, with the estate's lake close by.

The Lake and Water Features
The Lake and Water Features
The lake at Hotham Hall is one of the great quiet pleasures of the estate. Expanded during the 18th century, it now sits as a natural focal point within the grounds, providing a serene and reflective backdrop for the woodland that surrounds it. The lily pond and ornamental water features elsewhere on the estate add further moments of calm and visual interest as guests explore the grounds.
