Historic Interiors
Three centuries of Georgian interiors
From the moment you step through the door of Hotham Hall, the quality of what surrounds you is immediately apparent. Original 18th-century craftsmanship, soaring proportions and intricate period detail define rooms that have been carefully restored, with the original details kept wherever possible.
Why Hotham Hall
Where history and elegance reside
Dating from the early 1720s, Hotham Hall has been shaped by over three centuries of careful stewardship and considered alteration. The restoration programme undertaken since 2020 has brought the building to its finest condition, enhancing its grandeur whilst preserving the character and period detail that make it special. Each room has its own character, from the intricate carvings of the Ballroom to the refined calm of the Drawing Room, feeling simultaneously historic and entirely alive.
The restoration has been carried out with an unwavering commitment to quality and authenticity, every material carefully selected and every tradesperson personally appointed. The original features, from the carved festoons of the Ballroom to the panelling, sash windows, and ceiling mouldings, have been preserved rather than replaced. The chandeliers, fireplaces, and period architectural detail throughout are the real thing, maintained and presented in the finest possible condition for every event and every guest.
What's included
Every space has a story to tell

The Ballroom
The Ballroom
The Ballroom at Hotham Hall is one of the finest rooms in East Yorkshire. Its original early 18th-century woodwork, featuring panelling and delicate carvings attributed to the celebrated York joiner and architect William Thornton, known for his work on Beverley Minster, Wentworth Castle, and Castle Howard, shows the skill of craftsmen working at the time. An original fireplace and an impressive bay window offering sweeping views of the grounds and woodland complete a space that is as beautiful in natural daylight as it is beneath the warm glow of the chandelier. Accommodating up to 70 guests for a ceremony and 48 for a seated dinner, the Ballroom is the natural centrepiece of the Hall.

The Library Bar
The Library Bar
The Library Bar combines the intellectual warmth of a well-appointed private library with a well-stocked bar. A retractable screen concealed within the bookshelf allows the room to transition effortlessly between presentation settings and social occasions, making it one of the most versatile and characterful spaces in the Hall.

The Oak Room
The Oak Room
The Oak Room carries a warmth and traditional character that sets it apart from the rest of the Hall. Its classic design and intimate scale make it an ideal setting for smaller gatherings and quiet conversation, the kind of occasion that calls for a room with real personality.

The Entrance Hall
The Entrance Hall
The entrance hall sets the tone for everything that follows. Its proportions and architectural detail speak to the quality and care with which the whole building has been restored, creating an immediate sense of arrival.

The Drawing Room
The Drawing Room
Refined and serene, the Drawing Room lends itself equally to intimate private dining and considered social gatherings. Its décor speaks of elegance without effort, and the atmosphere it creates is one of calm distinction.

The Study
The Study
The Study offers a more contemplative space within the Hall, surrounded by books and art, in an atmosphere that encourages both thought and creativity. For private meetings or moments of quiet reflection, it provides exactly the right environment.

The Carriage House
The Carriage House
Alongside the Hall sits The Carriage House. Thoughtfully restored from the original 18th-century stable block, its event spaces combine the characterful bones of a historic building with modern design. The main Events Space and Bar, with a 120-person capacity, is flanked by courtyards and walled gardens. Colonel Jack's Bar and the 12 individually designed suites, which include a two-bedroom suite for four, make it a place to stay as well as to celebrate, with the club rooms extending the sense of space further and complementing the grandeur of the Hall. There are also five bedrooms in the Hall itself.
