Film & Photo Locations
A location that speaks for itself
Few locations in the north of England offer the visual richness and versatility of Hotham Hall Estate. A 300-year-old Georgian house with original period interiors, set in over 120 acres of grounds, it is one of the most distinctive filming and photography locations in Yorkshire.
Why Hotham Hall
Georgian grandeur, on location in Yorkshire
Hotham Hall Estate offers a rare combination of authentic period character and practical versatility that is difficult to find elsewhere in the region. The Grade II* listed Georgian Hall, with its soaring ceilings, original panelling, and intricate period detailing, provides a stunning interior setting for drama, romance, commercial work, and editorial photography.
Outside, the estate's grounds take in immaculately kept formal gardens, ornamental fountains, a lily pond, ancient woodland, and sweeping open parkland, each offering its own distinct visual quality. We welcome filmmakers, directors, photographers, and production companies, and our team is experienced in accommodating the full demands of a professional shoot, from late-night filming schedules to the careful management of our historic interiors.
Inside, the King Edward Ballroom serves as a natural centrepiece, while the Prince of Wales Library Bar, the Drawing Room, and the Study each carry their own distinct atmosphere. The Carriage House adds a different dimension entirely, with its contemporary event spaces and Colonel Jack's Bar. For productions shooting across multiple days, the estate's 12 en-suite suites and five further bedrooms in the Hall keep cast, crew, and key personnel on site throughout.

Everything a production could need

Locations
Outdoor spaces
The estate's outdoor locations include the formal gardens, ornamental fountains, the lily pond, and the woodland lake, alongside open parkland and a variety of characterful outbuildings. Each setting brings its own distinct atmosphere and visual quality.

Character
Period detail
Hotham Hall is particularly well suited to period drama, romance, and fantasy productions. The authenticity of the Georgian architecture, the original period features, and the scale of the estate's interiors give productions the real thing rather than a set. The estate is equally well suited to commercials, editorial shoots, interviews, and brand content.

Interiors
Indoor spaces
Indoor location options span the full breadth of the estate. The King Edward Ballroom, the Prince of Wales Library Bar, the Drawing Room, the Study, the main hallway, and the Oak Room within the Hall are complemented by The Carriage House's contemporary event spaces and Colonel Jack's Bar.
